Session II – Fuel and Crisis
13.00 - 14.30
Panel moderator Krista-Maria Alas, Managing Director of the Estonian Transport Fuels Union
Establishing fuel reserves and ensuring security of supply provides society with the confidence that we can manage in the event of a crisis. We will receive an overview of the progress of the Estonian authorities and market participants in the past year. Latvia has started to update its fuel reserve system and replace delegated reserves with purchased reserves. This, however, comes with a significant price tag and presents various challenges. In a crisis, in the days leading to the implementation of the Estonian strategic fuel reserve, fuel sellers and consumers will have to be able to meet the initial need themselves, one of the options for which is the dispersed pre-installing of small fuel tanks. A crisis in fuel supply means a major logistical challenge for everyone – are we prepared enough?
